Yesterday (August 7, 10), I installed Windows Live Messenger (included in Live Esseentials) for the first time on my new laptop with W7 and it worked.
I then downloaded the video software Any Video Converter from CNET and did some work with it. At one point, I force terminated the video software using Task Manager. The next time I logged on the laptop, I found the "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working" popup on the screen. (That is how I remember the events.)
I uninstalled Live Messenger and installed it again several times, but still couldn't get Messenger to work. I also uninstalled the above video software, but that didn't help.
I read http://windowslivehelp.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=0af8666b-4eaa-45e0-906f-a2f1dda48cea and did the steps. However, I found nothing wrong [F-secure isn't relevant to my new laptop; couldn't find NVIDIA Network Access Manager and the mentioned DLL files (all files in system32 were there well before I bought the laptop)]. All the sites I visited are safe (I think) and avast (for virus) has been working on real time.
What could be the problem and how do I get Messenger to work?
