Windows Live Mail Sucks

by scooterjeff / May 23, 2011 7:35 PM PDT

I recently purchased a new laptop loaded with Windows 7 home premium after having happlily run a Vista business loaded laptop until the mother board died.
Windows 7 has performed well but the new windows live mail programe is a dog. I am not sure where microsoft get off in designing and imposing on customers something that is such a retrograde step back from a perfectly functional and workable e mail programe that existed in vista.
The two main gripes that I have so far encountered are that it is no longer possible to e mail a sheet out of an excel workbook and when I try to e mail a photo from my picture library I encounter a window that tells me to sign into windows live mail. When I cancel this (as is an option) the message is deposited into my outbox and any subsequent attempts to send it result in error messages and it fails to send.
On top of this I find the interface of the programe complicated, cluttered and a pain to navigate.
Am I alone?

Window Live Mail totally sucks!
by euclido / December 11, 2011 3:11 AM PST

A few months ago I suddenly started getting a pop up every time I tried to open Windows Live Mail. It claimed that they (Microsoft), noticed some kind of inappropriate use of my account and locked it... I've tried everything they say to resolve the problem! When I enter a cell phone number for an unlock code nothing ever arrives. When I try to close the account it says that I will lose all access to any site that I use that email address to log onto!

Talk about imposing on users! Nothing I do has any effect!!!

My only solution was to download Mozilla Thunderbird as my email client and stop using Windows Live Mail. But my windows Hot Mail account and MSN accounts are still partially locked and useless!

Mozilla Thunderbird is wonderful! No problems at all and very fast!

Again, I've followed all of the Live Mail suggestions on how to fix the problem and have received no results and absolutely no return on inquiries!

Alternative to WLM
by praxidice / May 13, 2012 9:10 AM PDT

Thunderbird is indeed a vastly superior alternative to WLM, however I prefer Evolution due to the additional features. I too have received no constructive comments from Microsoft re fixing WLM, probably because nobody there has a clue. Hopefully the turkey responsible for producing the disaster has been given his / her marching orders.

Windoze 'Dead' Mail
by praxidice / May 13, 2012 9:03 AM PDT

WLM was quite obviously the brainchild of some f***wit who never even attempted to use it. FWIW, I did use Live Mail a while back on an older laptop with XP and as I recall it was slow & kludgy but at least halfway usable. When combined with Windoze 7 however its the dog of all dogs. Replacement with Evolution solved all the moronic issues created by 'Live' Mail. Mind you to be strictly correct, it should be named 'Dead' Mail !!!!dead'
