Question

Windows Live Mail : move folder from one account to another

Dec 3, 2012 10:37PM PST

Hi,

I created a new Hotmail account, and decided to discontinue using the first one.

However, I had many saved Folders in my old account, and I needed to transfer them to my new Hotmail account.

Of course, I used Windows Live Mail.

And, it seemed to work. I was able to successfully transfer all my emails (within each Folder) from my old account to the new one.

I can see ALL the messages in Windows Live Mail.

However, when I log into my new account using my Internet Browser (I use Mozilla), I cannot see the emails. All the Folders are EMPTY Sad

What could be the problem?? How come I can see them when I use Windows Live Mail..........but I cannot see them when I log into my account from a web browser?

Answer
When you download to WLM, you delete from server
Dec 3, 2012 10:44PM PST

You downloaded your email to WLM which removed them from the Hotmail server and put them on your computer. If you want future emails to be in both places, you need to go into the WLM setup and set it to leave your email on the server for a given no. of days. I leave mine for 30 days.

Good luck.

Windows Live Mail : move folder from one account to another
Dec 4, 2012 1:14PM PST

I found the problem.

The volume of emails was so large, that WLM was taking a long time to fully transfer them from one account to another.

All I needed to do was wait for a while Happy

How did you manage this?
Oct 8, 2015 4:01PM PDT

Hi. Please ignore my last post - I hit the wrong key.

I have tried to do the exact same thing by highlighting one folder in my old account and dragging it towards my new account, but as soon as it enters the area of the new account the folder symbol changes to a black circle with a line across and the move fails?

Did you perform your move differently or am I doing something wrong? Any help appreciated.
