Windows Live Mail Connection Problems

Jul 5, 2012 9:58PM PDT

After updating itself, my Windows Live Mail cant find my email server any longer, is this a common problem and are there any ways of getting around it?

Background info - i have tried using other email progammes but they didnt work as well and it is not a server issue as I have been able to send/receive from my home computer using the same account

Any error messages?

If so what do they say? (Exact wording please).

Where is your email server? Does the web site for this email supplier offer setup guidance for WLM and other email clients?

If so I would check the settings in the WLM account against this guidance, just to make sure no settings were changed by the update.

If other email programs don't work either (as you write) apparently it's not a WLM problem but a problem of this particular PC/laptop (whatever it is, you didn't write).

- Do browsers work?
- Blocked by a firewall or an expired Norton or Kaspersky?
- Can you ping the email server?
- What are the results of the test with telnet (see http://www.simplescripts.de/smtp-check-port-25-telnet-command.htm and comparable sites)
For the last 2 test, compare the results with your home computer.
