Does anyone know where the contacts list file is stored. I need to recover it after a computer reload.

Depends on the operating system...
Jun 14, 2009 3:45AM PDT

Windows Vista / Windows 7:
C:\Users\<your Windows username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts

Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your Windows username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts

NOTE: The AppData/Application Data folder is hidden by default.

Hope this helps,
John

Location of WLM Contacts.

Using W7, WLM 2011. "Contacts" shows up in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts (not "Windows Live Mail" which is the following folder and holds all emails). There is a file there "contacts.edb", about two MB but it is not the file for my actual Contacts (when I temporarily move it my contacts still come up in WLM).

My problem is that my up to date Contacts (and messages) are on a solid state drive, boot drive, which is almost completely kaput but may have just enough life left to grab my Contacts before it dies. To stand a chance I need to know exactly where to look and exactly what I'm looking for. I gather it may not be as simple as the single .wab file of Outlook Express days- or is it?? It is sure not easy to find out.

The reason I have any contacts in place at all to experiment with is that my technician did import a set of contacts off my nearly dead drive but they were an old out of date set. Russell
