Question

Windows installing PC turns off and on

Jul 30, 2017 3:58AM PDT

Asus laptop i restarted after it froze, it started repairing the disk and after a while a menu popped up having various alternatives, i picked system restore and it started reinstalling Windows and i changed HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion, and after highliting childcompletion,on the right hand side check for setup.exe. if the value is 1 change it to 3 i did this after getting this pupup The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered, an unexpected error. Now Its stuck on restarting itself and sometimes Windows downloading 64% shows up with the do not turn the PC off text on a Blue screen

Why did you do that?

Anyway, I'd start all over with the Asus recommend way to go back to factory conditions. If no luck, use the Windows Media Creation Tool to install Windows 10 and add all necessary drivers fromt the Asus site yourself.

Talk/write to the person that advised that registry edit to see if they have a fix. Otherwise you are looking at what Kees noted.

Since this is Windows 10 (?) I would try booting my Windows 10 install and repair USB stick I created with Microsoft's Media Creation Kit that I answered with "for another PC."

Then I can try it's repair features.

1. Put the Windows Windows 7 installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.

2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …". appears.

3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next.

4. Click Repair your computer.

5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.

7. Type BOOTREC /FIXMBR, and then press ENTER.

8. Type BOOTREC /FIXBOOT, and then press ENTER.

9. Type Drive:\boot\Bootsect.exe /NT60 All, and then press ENTER.

Note: In this command, Drive is the drive where the Windows 7 installation media is located.
