Windows installer problem!!

May 28, 2005 7:32PM PDT

Hi,

I installed Kaspersky AV 5.0 Pro but had problems with it so tried to uninstall it. The uninstaller didn't work so i deleted the application and its contents manually with Ace Utilities. I have now searched the computers files and folders and there are no files associated with Kaspersky on my system found.

The problem i have is whenever i right click on a file on the desktop or a folder in any of the drives, Windows Installer appears with the following message....

"Please wait while Windows configures Kaspersky Anti Virus Personal Pro....

Gathering required information...

The feature you are trying to use is on a netowrk resource that is unavailable. Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro.msi' in the box below"

So i press CANCEL...

"ERROR 1706. No valid installation package found for application Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro. Retry the installation using the required copy of installation package Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro.msi. "

Once i've cancelled the messages that appear i am able to access the options your supposed to get when right clicking on the mouse like open, explore, send to, etc etc.

I've tried reinstalling Kaspersky and unistalling but this has not cured the problem. Is there anyway i can prevent Windows Installer from trying to locate Kaspersky everytime i right click on a folder or file because its really realllly annoying!

Any help would be much appreciated, thankss

Try this...

I had the same problem with Kaspersky and Wndows Installer. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
Install the software, remove install information for Kaspersky from the database, after that reinstall Kaspersky, and finally you will be able to deinstall Kaspersky Antivirus normally.

would be to use the add /remove applelet in control panel, also i would suggest cleaning your registry maybe right before the final installation of your AV program.

please, you don't have to reinstall windows OR go through system restore. Forget about what others have said:

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS RUN "FINAL UNINSTALLER 2.2"

THIS WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM WITH THAT ANNOYING RIGHT CLICK ISSUE.

THE ONLY THING YOU NEED TO RUN FROM THE "FINAL UNINSTALLER 2.2" SOFTWARE IS THE REGISTRY CLEAN UP EXPERT OPTION!!!!

I'M WILLING TO SHARE MY "KEY" IF SOMEONE NEEDS IT BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND HOW THIS FEELS. (SO YOU CAN HAVE THE FULL VERSION, NOT THE DEMO VERSION)

OR YOU CAN GET A REGISTRY CLEANER ELSE WHERE.
