Question

Windows has encountered a problem error message

Jul 25, 2011 4:43AM PDT

A friend purchased her first digital camera and I offered to help her download the images to her 'My pictures' file.
As soon as I click to open the 'my pictures' folder, the message 'Windows has encountered a problem and must shut down' appears.
I there a way to disable this, as I cannot open her 'my pictures' file?
It makes no difference whether I click on the 'notify microsoft' option or
click on 'don't notify microsoft'. Either way it just shuts down the 'my pictures' folder.

Answer
My HP camera did that to XP!

Here's why. I had skipped installing the camera software and without that, Windows would crash everytime I browsed to the picture folder.

The issue is a VERY OLD ISSUE which I have flogged many a Microsofty about. It's been 15 years and this bug is still alive in Windows 7.

Camera

Since this is the Digital Camera Forum we always want to know what camera is involved.

I never load any of the software that comes with digital cameras.
It is much simpler to use a card reader.
Put a memory card in a card reader and the computer thinks it has another disk drive.
You can use "drag & drop" to copy the photo files to the computer.

Camera Manufacturer and Camera Model number please.

Thank you both for your quick answers. Armed with these tips I am sure I'll be able to get my friend
up and running as soon as I have a chance to get over to her home.
She bought the camera in Sweden last December; it's a Samsung, I don't have the model no., but
will get it, if I have to ask more regarding this.
