General discussion

windows explorer won't run.

May 26, 2005 2:16PM PDT

Every time I try to open anything that requires windows explorer, I get an error message (encountered an error, needs to close, send a message to MS, you know the one). What would cause this all of a sudden? I can run other programs, even games, etc. but I can even open the My Computer folder.
This has been going on since last night. What did I do to my poor computer?

Explorer or Internet Explorer? Any other symptoms?

Do you recall the exact error mesage?

Have you run AV or Spyware/Adware utlities? Cleaned out temorary files?

Tried the Browsers forum?

i blew up IE a long time ago, firefox is much more to my liking.

I have run the whole spyware troop already, Spybot, Adaware, spysweeper, etc.

I am running system file checker right now, at the guidence of Grif in the newbies forum. I will see what that turns up.

what is the mod name
May 26, 2005 4:48PM PDT

when u get that message u will see a place where u can click to see technical information
click that and it will tell the appname and modname
appname wud be explorer.exe
wats the mod name
if it is unknown then there is very good possibility of a spyware
or if it is some other name then pls let us know
try it in safe mode and i think u can open windows explorer in safe mode

if the mode name is <xxx.dll>
then type regsvr32 /u <xxx.dll>
and regsvr32 <xxx.dll>
xxx.dll is the modname and it will be a dll file

so i pull up the technical data, and it says under "module 1" explorer.exe. after that, I have modules 2-20-something, and they are all (xxxx).dll, a bunch of different names. What does this mean?

it says -
msvcrt.dll was loaded, but the DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered.

What do I do now? You might be on the right track here, so help me out please!
