Windows Explorer screen pulsing

Jun 11, 2004 5:11PM PDT

I thought that we had licked this problem back in March. The Explorer screen is pulsing/refreshing every second and despite Housecall,CWShredder and Norton checks plus a safe mode and reboot try, the problem still persists. Can anyone advise please?

Peter,

In the future, so we don't have to hunt down your previous thread, it would be nice if you posted a link to it. It allows us to catch up quickly. In the meantime, here is a direct link to that previous discussion:

Have you tried the same suggestion again? Reboot to "Safe Mode", Status bar, etc...?

In addition, you might follow the procedures at the links below to shut down unnecessary start up programs and clean out the computer:

How To Shut Down Unnecessary Start Up Programs

How To Clean Unwanted Files From The Hard Drive

After you're done with the steps above, make sure to run Chkdsk/Error Checking and Disk Defrag to opmtimize the hard drive.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes.

Sorry it has taken so long to respond but have been away on and off since last message. Have now tried all suggestions since this thread started - nothing seems to change the situation. Any further thoughts? Peter

Peter,

Just some thoughts..

Have you tried visiting the computer manufacturer, or video card's website and checking for new video drivers?

Have you tried swapping in a different monitor temporarily to see if that cures the issue?

Since this happens when you try to open an Explorer window (My Computer or a drive letter), have you tried temporarily disabling programs, one at a time, (specifically your antivirus)to see if it's causing the resource drain?

On Windows XP, have you tried System Restore and taking the machine to a time when things were working correctly?

Hope this helps.
