Windows Explorer problem

Jun 13, 2004 9:28AM PDT

Is there some way to restore Windows Explorer? Whenever I try to open My Computer or any other folders on the desktop, even the Recycle Bin, there is a message saying "Explorer has caused an error in SHLWAPI.DLL or PDF06A6.DLL and Explorer will now close". What went wrong and how can it be fixed? Thanks!

Put SHLWAPI.DLL into http://www.google.com and about the second or so item is a web page about such. Next time take the Tip more seriously that reads:

"If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution."

well thank you for the help! I'm not sure what to do but I guess I'll figure it out. Seems that spyware etc is on the rise and I guess I'll be buying more stuff to keep the clowns out, and thats a shame. Why are there always dockheads who make it a life goal to screw up a good thing? I'll never figure it out..
Thanks again for the politeness

Man I have a similar problem with 'windows explorer':
my machines randomly restart and give me a box stating: windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.' blah blah blah. I cant figure this puppy out. MSN is no help! I was told that i needed a newer version of windows explorer, but man I can't find it! any help would be great!
sounds like we have the same problem.....

- A 'newer version of Windows Explorer' doesn't make sense, as you found out.
- Random restarts mostly are signs of hardware problems, but viruses or spyware might be involved also. Impossible to diagnize from a distance without any clue.
- Your problem might be the same as that of the original poster, but you don't give us any information that such is the case indeed.

well Kees, that's pretty much what happens. I have MSN premium which includes McAfee, i run adaware, AVG, spybot, you name it man, i've got it. I'm gonna try a hardware firewall, since if i turn on the windows firewall my machines no longer network. I never leave them on unless they are in use. any ideas?
I suspect spyware, i've had all kinds of problems since i went to MSN9... msn 8 was all worked out. If i had it to do over again, i'd stay with msn8. 9 has more bugs than a bait shop. Thanks KEES for being cool. Ive read some responses in here where ppl are cornholes. what good is that? hehe
