I can replicate this and the answer from Microsoft was "don't do that."
What did I do? I put a corrupt JPEG file in a folder. When Explorer opens that directory, Explorer can lock up.
From Microsoft's response there is no fix planned. What we are left to do is to note what directory (folder) is locking up Explorer then use another file browser to move out suspects and find the one file that Explorer chokes on.

When I try to use windows explorer it quite often but not all the time stops responding. I have tried using disk defrag and scan disk on the drive but the problem persists. Is there way of repairing this?
Many Thanks
