Windows Explorer has stopped working

Dec 4, 2010 1:57AM PST

If I go online and type in Windows Explorer has stopped working I get a million answers from Hardware, Software and people who want me to buy their program to fix the problem.
As example I try to go to Control Panel and it want let me go in I know I can go in from another source but I don't want to see any errors whatsoever. I am running Windows 7, 8GB and so on...
I could see a program interference but I have tried everything except reinstall.
Thanks for suggestions!

This one is mildly interesting.

At least to software engineers and those that deal with Windows. FOR EXAMPLE I can take some video file and place it in a folder and have Explorer stop responding when I browse that folder.

The cause is now well known and there has been no sign Microsoft will issue a fix. The response so far has been "don't do that" and "delete the corrupt file that causes this."

You wrote "t I don't want to see any errors whatsoever. I am running Windows 7, 8GB and so on."

Sadly, you are going to see errors as long as Microsoft maintains this is not a bug.

Thanks for your answer it gave me satisfaction that I was on the right track so now I just reinstall the OS and get rid of it.
I know there are bugs and fixes everywhere and hopefully they can be solved in
an easy way.

Thanks

If there is a fix to this one.

I'd like to know about it. Yes there are workarounds such as changing the view on the folder. We can also re-encode the video file to something that doesn't crash Explorer but the word "fix" seems to be elusive and daunting as long as its maker maintains this is not a bug.

Windows Explorer stopped working

Bob, "fixes" is a bit elusive since I get that from all other sources on the net and I don't beleive in any of them therefore I posted this on cnet. At the moment the "fix" I am going to do is reinstall and work with Kaspersky and the registry to come up with something that will find what it is and I will as soon as I know post it on cnet.

Windows Explorer right-click function problem.
Feb 23, 2011 7:07AM PST

I cannot use the right click function in Windows Explorer at all. Program stops responding. To delete a file, I have to highlight and use the delete key, etc. Very annoying. Cannot rename a file (I Save As to rename and delete the old one with the delete key. I have tried starting in Safe Mode, and still have the problem. I think the only solution is to reload Windows, but then I know it will happen again at some point as I tried this once before. I would love a fix.
