Question

Windows Explorer crashes spontaneously

Oct 29, 2016 8:18AM PDT

I frequently leave several Windows Explorers open, some of them with search results, some not. Lately, from time to time Windows Explorer crashes and closes all of them. This happens when I'm not using Explorer at all. Any idea?

This PC needs work either in hardware or the OS. Tell the forum about the PC and what you think caused this to start failing.

Internet Explorer crashing spontaneously

I don't think this is new. It just seems to be happening more often. I did a Windows update earlier this year (before the problem started, I think). More recently I installed RealPlayer and SleepyHead and I have updated GOM player. I plugged in a card-reading device (into a hub). This isn't a huge problem but I was hoping somebody might recognize it. In my searching of previous posts, they all seem to say Explorer crashes when I do this or that but for me it seems to be spontaneous although I am using the computer when it happens.

While marginal clues.

The age is against us here. Also, the graphics is in the i5 so let's start with basics.

1. Start your canned air routine again. Since I can't guess the last time you did this (how and what is canned air is on the web, we don't open the laptop) start with a daily vent cleaning for a week, then weekly for a month and back to the normal 1st of the month routine.

Many folk never do this and in 1 to so many years they start having odd issues like yours.

2. I didn't find an intel i5-310m. The m6 is a series so it's too much work for me to track down what you have. Make this easy in the future.

3. Follow Grif advice in these two threads:

Running CCleaner appears to have solved the problem.
