Windows Experience index issues

Jan 31, 2011 12:00PM PST

heres what i've done

from command line run as administrator the [winsat disk -seq -read c:\] command returns "unable to open drive or device. error: failed to properly assess the disk. the parameter is incorrect." almost instantly

chkdsk says the drive is clean
sfc /scannow says there are no integrity issues

tried terminating the indexing process, exiting comodo internet security, terminated comodo system cleaner.
tried running under the"administrator" account
tried cleaning out the datastore file under \windows\performance\winsat
updated my bios (very nerve-wracking mind you)
and my drivers were downloaded from the appropriate device manufacturers site.

specs(built the machine myself)
os:windows 7 x64
500gb hitachi sata hdd (running in AHCI mode)
4GB ddr2-800 memory
2.20ghz amd athlon x2 dual core processor
ati4350 512mb graphics card.
biostar a785ge motherboard
500watt power supply

pertinent background software(that didn't come with windows 7)
comodo internet security
comodo time machine(system restoring software)
comodo system cleaner(registry cleaning software)

When registry software is involved
Jan 31, 2011 12:14PM PST

When registry software is involved, it's impossible to predict what the outcome will be, except that it's far more likely to be negative than positive.

Back to the machine's designer.

Registry cleaning? Why?
Jan 31, 2011 12:18PM PST

That's a new install. So please tell why we need to clean a clean install?

not just a registry cleaner
Jan 31, 2011 1:32PM PST

also cleans disk temporary files and privacy stuff

Still makes one wonder.

On a clean install of Windows, why clean the registry?

Let's be clear that we see registry cleaning to cause troubles.

i'll look further into the issue. the system cleaner was really just a carry over from windows xp that i installed as part of my trusted software package

Let's just say the OS took a beating. You can try system restore to when it worked.

Feb 1, 2011 12:35PM PST

before installing anything wei runs perfectly score 3.7
after installing drivers... still runs perfectly same score
notice able performance increase
still sucks that i can't get my graphics score above 3.8 even though my gaming graphics is at 5.8 but thats a different issue

2D and 3D (gaming) scores.
Feb 4, 2011 1:43AM PST

Sorry but I missed it why we are concerned about the non-gaming score?

bragging rights
Feb 4, 2011 3:04AM PST

ego, pride. all that stuff i know that score doesn't matter just wish it were higher with the effort i put into this machine

I just tried your command line
Feb 1, 2011 11:03AM PST

and got a similar error, however when I correctly defined the drive number [ -n 0] instead of [ c:\] I got the result I expected.
