Windows doesn't recognize my new ram.

I installed new ram, but windows doesn't recognize it. when i started up my computer, it did a memory test and found all the ram. When windows started up, it only recognized my old ram. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Details matter.

You could have supplied what the BIOS reported for RAM, make, model of the machine, the OS in question and somewhere there could be the answer.

But Windows 98 for example is limited.

well, when the comp. started, it saw all 320 mb of ram installed. i installed an Additional 128 mb stick and 64 mb stick to the 128 mb ram the comp. came with. i have a compaq presario 5170 with intel pentium 2 processor 347 mhz. i have windows xp home edition. i hope this helps

I just checked now on cpu-z and it found all of the ram i installed.

when i type in 320 in MAXMEM it goes back to 128

MANUALLY REMOVE the /maxmem from boot.ini

The reason for the links is simple. If one didn't make sense you can try another. But the links looked like it contained enough bullets for you to fix it.
