Windows Defender uninstall problems completing

Jul 11, 2007 3:36AM PDT

Recently I uninstalled Windows Defender on the advise of a friend when I mentioned I was having update problems with it.

I did this through Add and Remove and to make sure used Windows Install Cleanup Utility along with Cleanup 4.5 and CCleaner. However yesterday I noticed Windows Defender is still showing in All Programs along within Program Files in C:\Drive. The WD folder is 4.57MB. If I right click on the folder it will not delete giving me a message as follows:

"Cannot delete MpSL Hook.dll Access denied" Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use".

I checked in My Computer/Services and Windows Defender is still showing as disabled.

Can I have guidance please to uninstall this software completely from My Computer.

Thanks and kind regards,

I have solved my problem above by going into Safe Mode and deleting Windows Defender from All Programs.

I also went into Safe Mode in an alternative way for me namely:

"Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
The computer restarts in Safe mode.
Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer
Windows as part of a multiboot system"

I found this a much easier way than tapping F8 - I did not have much success as I always seemed to either start to tap F8 too early or too late!

Another problem solved thank goodness.
