Question

Windows Defender Problems

I need help updating Windows Defender. I try to update it and it always gets an error message. How do I go about to fix this? Troubleshooting is not going to work. Every time I try to update it says "this app couldn't check for virus and spyware definition updates." My internet connection is working, but it's not updating.

it says I have an error code"0x8024001e"

I have Windows 8. How do I go about fixing this?

I fear the fix is not just one fix.
https://www.google.com/search?q=0x8024001e tells me this one is fairly involved.

Make a decision about when you have the time to check out those priors. I read more than one fix so my only added input is how did this happen? I usually find Glary or other utilities that "optimized" Windows.

Don't know how it happened

I don't really know how it happened. It updated successfully on the 16th but then it has stopped updating the last few days.

I WOULD NOT FIX THIS.

Microsoft's update system has been known to self correct after a few days or even weeks. If it's just Windows Defender I would not panic but give it a lot of time.

Why? I don't visit cra pp y sites or Torrent. Even your best antivirus won't protect a PC from such use.

Answer
try restore point

you can try doing a system restore to a restore point just prior to the update.

I will try restore point

I will try system restore but if that doesn’t work I will try a system refresh
