Windows defender and Comcast/mcafee security

Jul 15, 2009 9:31PM PDT

I have the Mcafee security suite from comcast and every couple of weeks it stops letting me run a virus scan, the scan button actually deletes itself. Is this a problem for anyone else? I wen through and uninstalled the other third party virus and spyware detection such as avg, spybot search and destroy, etc. This time i reinstalled mcafee like i had before and still could not do a scan for viruses. My windows defender isn't working now either i think that it has a problem with Mcafee. Should i just delete mcafee and try relying on windows defender as well as some other third party programs? PLease help me I dont know what to do and now i am pretty sure my computer has a freaking virus on it.

or Norton/Symantec. I run free AVG, Windows Defender, AdAware, and Spyware Blaster on all 5 of my XP Pro machines. They all play nice together.

Tied with comcast

If it is tied with comcast, then I'm pretty sure it is a subscription. You have to call McAfee Customer Support (toll free) and have the program reinstalled. Make sure you uninstall first any Antivirus software you have

McAfee's Security Suite Has A Real-time Spyware Scanner Like

..Windows Defender. Both scan for spyware in the background. As a result, they will frequently cause problems because they are both attempting to do the same thing..

Unfortunately, Windows Defender IS NOT an antivirus program.. It won't find viruses and as such, although it does a fair job at detecting spyware, you'll need to install an antivirus as well. If you decide to leave Windows Defender on the computer, I'll recommend three free antivirus programs which work well on most computers..

Avira (Currently among the best in detection rates, paid or free.)

Avast

AVG Antivirus

I happen to use Avira a lot.. Others use AVG or Avast.. Since they're free, try them all to see which one you like the best.

Hope this helps.
