Windows Defender

Nov 9, 2008 5:53AM PST

I got Windows Defender with my computer. Today I went to the Software Explorer section and looked at the Start Up list. When I click on an entry, the "Remove, Disable, and Enable" buttons aren't highlighted. I went to the Windows site and tried to download it again (the version given was different from the version I have) but it said I got it with my computer. Apparently, because I didn't buy it outright,I can't update it. Does anyone know how to get the buttons to highlight so I can disable a program from starting up when Windows starts up.
I did just go to msconf and unchecked some there, but I wonder why Windows Defender doesn't work right.

I went there before. It tells you what to do, how to use the program, but doesn't tell you what to do if the links aren't clickable. I have other programs I use for spyware and to moniter my computer, I guess I will use them instead. A lot of it might have to do with security, but unless you're a computer expert, you don't know how to get around it. Any more, I have to click this and that and do this and that just to view a page and it's perfectly alright stuff. And in spite of all this security, programs are still getting bugs and becoming unusable. It is so very, very frustrating!!!!

Thank you so much for that piece of info. And thanks for the site. I'm sure it will come in handy many times.
