Re: cannot find exe

Strange.

- The exe-file doesn't show an extension (neither does the file below it), but the .dll and .bin are shown. What are your settings for hiding known filetypes? Better turn off and show all.
- Now to into the command prompt, cd this folder and dir. Do you see soffice.exe? What happens if you give the command soffice? And the command soffice.exe?
- What was on the disk before you installed Windows 10? Where did you get the install file from?
- Can you run other exe's, such as iexplore (Internet Explorer)? Or are it only these 2 word processors that fail this way.

Still can't open soffice.exe

In reply to: Re: cannot find exe

1) Showing all

2) I did see soffice.exe

Nothing happens on command for soffice or soffice.exe, I tested desktophelper.txt which did open.

3) I had Windows 8 before, then windows update prompted me to update it to Windows 10 which I did.

4) So far only open office and windows word .exe that are failing. IE and Chrome .exe are working as they should.

That's strange.

Since the (forced or invited) update to Windows 10 was ended in July 2016, you must have Windows 10 for quite some time already. And I assume the failures for Open Office and Word only came recently. What changed since it last worked?

Things to try:
- can you copy-paste the exe-file in File Explorer or does that give a not-found error also?
- can you rename the exe-file in the command window?
- does chkdsk find any errors?

No disk errors as far as I can see

In reply to: Re: programs

The programs stopped working since I updated to Win 10 in 2016, I didn't have the need for those programs at the time as I just used the Google docs...

1) I can copy and paste the exe file onto the desktop, but when I enter C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\program\soffice.exe into the File Explorer it gives me the same error message saying "Windows cannot find..."

2) Yes, I can, when I double click the renamed file it doesn't start or gives me the message that the "Windows cannot find..."

3) Not that I can tell...

It's mysterious.

Next suggestions:
1. Can you run these programs in Safe Mode? Then some running program is interfering.
2. Can you run these programs (in normal mode or Safe Mode) in a totally new Windows account. Then switch to that in stead of your current account.
3. System Restore back to when you could still run these programs.
4. Back to your latest image backup that could still run these programs
5. Reset Windows.
