Windows can't update

Jul 2, 2009 6:05AM PDT

Hi i've noticed that Windows can't update, the last successful update was on 24th May 09. I have Windows Ultimate installed. I have a 32 bit OS.

The error i'm getting at the moment is

Code 80240016, Windows update is currently installing other updates. Please try again in a few minutes.

I've done that with no successful, i turn off automatic updates then try manually and get the following error.
Then when it tries checking for updates i get the following error:

Code 80072EFD Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I checked to see and my firewall is not blocking windows update.

Also when i try checking updates for Windows Defender I get the following error.

Error found: 0x80072efd.

I tried searching the net for solution but with no success. I tried running sfc/scannow in command, but that found nothing.

I am really stuck on what to do next.

Any help would be well appreciated.

Free Microsoft support...

As this is a Windows Update issue, you are entitled to free technical support from Microsoft, regardless of current warranty status. Given their abilities to better troubleshoot such issues using their own diagnostic tools, I recommend that you click here to begin a new support incident.

Good luck.
