Windows Audio Service problem and svchost

Feb 17, 2009 11:47PM PST

I dont know how this happened. What's going on is my Windows XP Pro is crashing because svchost is hogging up all the resources, mainly the Windows Audio Service. I did some troubleshooting on the "started" services, I found out it had to with the Windows Audio Service. For some reason when its active, svchost will jump to a 100% and then crash the PC. Be it watching videos, loading the mixer at startup, it will crash if the two touches each other.

As of the moment I have disabled the service so that I can use the computer. But of course this has to be fixed so I can get some sounds. Basically if anyone could help me troubleshoot the service or svchost itself so that I can find out why it hogs it all up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S.
C-media 8738 audio device (already upgraded the drivers, still crashes)
system restore didnt do the trick
I'm confident to say this is really not a virus or malware problem
