WINDOWS ACTIVATION

Mar 3, 2011 2:35AM PST

SYSTEM IS ASKING TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS, WINDOW 7, OF COURSE SINCE THEY SAID THAT THE UPDATES TO VISTA IS NO LONGER AVAIBLE, THEIR PUSHING WINDOWS 7. I DON'T HAVE 200 DOLLARS TO SPEND AND SINCE THEIR PUSHING IT, THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE 7?

Ouch.

Those CAPS, (CAPITAL LETTERS), make reading your post difficult.

First: Vista is still supported by Microsoft and will be for some years yet. All Vista machines will receive Windows Updates as and when they are required.

So, please explain your remark, "THEY SAID THAT THE UPDATES TO VISTA IS NO LONGER AVAIBLE". Who said that, and what did they mean?

Second. This is the Vista forum. You seem to be asking about Windows 7 activation. Why not post in the Windows 7 forum?

Third. If you are, in fact, still using Windows Vista, has it been activated yet? If not, why not activate it?

Remember this, whilst you can see your computer and know what your are talking about, we can't see it. We rely completely on you to explain the problems in detail.

Something I tripped over last year.
Mar 3, 2011 1:06PM PST

Last year a friend's machine got hit with malware which did something I never saw before. It corrupted "something" in the OS that caused the 'this windows is not legal' problem.

Vista SP2 support will end soon. http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/?sort=PN&alpha=WINDOWS+vista

But all this is hard to write what it means to us here. Suffice it to write the updates are still available for many years.

Start with your anti-virus scanner

That's what I would do. Make sure your anti-virus scanner is fully up to date, then run a full scan with that.

In addition, and because AV's do not find all malware threats, I would recommend downloading, installing, updating and running full scans with the free versions of Malwarebytes Anti-malware and SUPERAntiSpyware.

I hope that helps.
