Question

Windows 98SE not booting

Aug 5, 2013 4:22PM PDT

I got an old computer a couple of days ago. It's an all-in-one Monorail 166LS with Windows 98SE installed (16M on board).
Everything was working fine for the most part until I decided to install an old version of the VLC player. It wasn't working correctly, so I went and check the cd drive properties and checked a DMA setting square box which prompted me to restart the pc for the changes to take effect. After that windows 98SE won't longer boot normally. I can access it in safe mode, but I don't know what to do exactly to get it back in action like it used to.
The other issue is that I don't have any drivers or any copy of windows 98se, so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'd boot into Safe Mode and undo those changes you did. There's nothing in your story to have any other ideas.

If no luck, it's time to bring it to the recycling.

You have to deal with finding those eventually. You bring up a point however and I wonder if you are encountering folk at the repair counter that feel the repair centers should have these?
