Re:WIndows 98 SE - Freecell. Do you have a firewall or popup stopper?

There was a version of firewall or popup stopper that caused freecell to be inoperative. Let me see if I can find that link:

That's one. I'm sure there were others.

As to where Freecell is, it's in the Add/Remove Programs under Windows, Games.

1. Freecell should ideally be installed again from the CD.

2. Failing that, you can download all the generic MS Games from their own site. Go to the Windows Updates page, then on the left select Personalise and then the option to View Downloads Page. Now go into that area and search for all downloads for your OS.

Somewhere in the results (it's grouped in sub-sets) there will be an MS Games download, which comprises the four games from the Windows CD. Worth grabbing this in case your CD goes bad, and you need an alternative source.

Adwares may affect FREECELL

I had similar problem because of an adware gah95on6.exe which was found on memory which you can find from Alt+Ctrl+Del report. It cannot be removed by spyware adware removal progams or antivirus software. Separate forum discussions are available at on the topic.

Sometimes simple things will solve the problem rather than diagnosing things in detail. As for this gah95on6 problem, first thing to do is to have a peep at the regular Add/Remove programs. If anything unrelated to our operation, business, should be deleted. For example, I have found a program called ShopAtHome which was throwing lot of critical objects at AdAware scans and probably the gah95on6.exe when it was removed with some password it provides, the file was not loaded in memory the critical objects number drastically went down.

Secondly if anything is in C:\temp folder we have to peep and remove.

Interesting thing is the only programme the above adware affected was FREECELL game which was creating problem. But once gah95on6 was removed FREECELL started working fine.

So we may look out for available simple solutions first

Phil, Disable any pop-up stopper program, firewall, and Antivirus program (AVG is known to cause Freecell & Solitaire problems)then try to play Freecell. Don't forget to enable the programs again when you're done playing Freecell.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
