Another source, is windows update, it is located in the Windows section, not critical updates, and has a file for the shutdown issue in 98 along with the large IDE caching for 98 was created before faster processors and larger hard drives were on the market. You can try this option to see if the shutdown issue becomes corrected, if all else fails, go into msconfig, and shutdown items from windows startup (do not uncheck explorer, or systray), would allow your resources to higher in availability, and less devices for windows to have to shut down.
