Question

Windows 8 to Windows 7

Apr 8, 2015 2:47AM PDT

I have a laptop that came with windows 7, then I upraded to windows 8 but now I want windows 7 back. I then went to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery and entered the product key for windows 7 on the back of my laptop, but it said "The product key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

Can someone tell me how I can get windows 7 back given the situation? I would really appreciate some replies.

Answer
In this cae you use the laptop's restore media.

If you lost or didn't create such you can, for almost all laptops order the replacement media.

Microsoft would not be where you get this media.

where?

Then where would I order the replacement media?

The maker.

I would be more specific if the posts included make and model. For some like Dell these are online but as it stands the laptop maker is who you contact next.

Windows 7 is a few gigabytes and this is 0.1 GB. You could try it but it looks far too small.

is it free?

It was free when you make your own.
Apr 8, 2015 3:13AM PDT

I have yet to pay for recovery media since I make those when I get a new PC. However I have passed along the charges to clients that forgot to do this. I've seen prices (USD) from 12 to 50 USD for a set of restore media.

You don't have to answer but why didn't you make these or backup your PC?

Answers to so.

1. Would I contact samsung for replacement media?
Yes.

2, Can I use a windows 7 recovery disc?
The one made for your laptop.

3. If yes, can I use any recovery disc or a specific one?
It must be for your model laptop. These recovery discs are tailored to your model with the right drivers and apps to get it back to the condition it came when new.

In parting if Windows 8 is working but you miss the Start Button, install Classic Shell for free. it's over at:
