Windows 8 startup

Oct 12, 2013 3:24AM PDT

I am now running Windows 8, however, I had installed Windows 8.1 but reinstalled Windows 8 on the same drive. Now when I restart or start windows 8 I get three(3) boxes requesting that I choose between Win 8 and Win 8.1 (Win 8.1 no longer exists on the hard drive. How do I get rid of these boxes?

Please help...Jay Lawing

Windows 8 startup

Hi,

Those options showing on your startup are certainly taking space on your hard drive's memory. The best thing to get this sorted out is to format your hard drive.

To format the hard drive, you need to create a bootable USB drive or CD.

Requirements:

1. Flash drive with at least 4gig storage capacity. (It should be empty.)
2. Using your Windows 8 product key, download the Windows 8 installer here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only
3. Click on Install Windows 8. Don't worry, it will not install Windows 8 automatically, it will download Windows 8 installer then will give you option to create a bootable USB/Flashdrive.
4. Follow the simple instruction.

Steps:

1. Backup all your important files. No need for the apps since it's synch to your Microsoft account.
2. Insert the bootable drive and restart your computer. While the computer is rebooting, press any key on your keyboard to boot the computer to the flashdrive.
3. Now click install Windows 8. It will give you option to upgrade or install, just select install.
4 Click the hard drive where you want windows 8 to be installed (ex c: drive) and click on format.
5. After the format completed, proceed with the installation.

Hope that helps, if you have any question let me know. I'll be happy to help.
