Resolved Question

Windows 8 & Quicken

Nov 9, 2012 8:35PM PST

Does anybody know if Quicken 2004 will work with W8, I have done the compatibility test and it was inconclusive i.e. it told me all the progs I need to update and all the progs that were OK no mention of Quicken, as I have been using this programe for over 14 years and have a lot of data I don't want change to another programe Inuit no longer supports Quicken in the UK (unless someone knows different) they only do commercial software like Quick Books so if anybody out there can help I would eternally grateful.

Quicken 2004?
Nov 9, 2012 9:54PM PST

I am using Quicken 2011 with my system. Is there a reason for you not using a newer version? 2004 is quite old and I found it necessary to upgrade long before Windows 8 came along...

Uodate re Quicken and Win8

grawhib,

I know this thread is very old, but I am in exactly the position you were in and reluctant to give up on the UK version of Quicken 2004. I have been waiting for the end of XP and just considering staying where I am but my current pc is running out of steam. My backstop is a switch to an iMac running Fusion with an XP Guest running Quicken. I know this works because I set up my wife's pc to run Quicken in this way.

Although an expensive option, my original plan was to go completely Mac, if my wife's experience was ok. It has been but frankly I do not find the Mac that intuitive (heresy to some I know) and so I have been trying to find out whether I can install Quicken on a new Win8 machine and expect it to work.

According to your experience I can. Do you mind if I just confirm the process you went through. From the other posts, especially that by Stoker964, just doing an install on Windows 8 and then copying across the 3 files he mentions will do the trick.

Is this the case and is Quicken still running successfully to date?

Be grateful for any further information you can provide.

UK Quicken 2004 and Windows 8

UK Version Release 2 Quicken 2004 ( Final issued UK Version) will work in Windows 8 but you must have the following files installed in the Quicken directory:-

MFC70.dll
MSVCP70.dll
MSVCR70.dll

I have installed Quicken on a friends new conputer running Windows 8, it is incompatible without those three files.

I am running it in Windows 7 64bit and had the same problem untill I added those three files, you should be able to download them from the internet.

Good luck

UK Quicken 2004 and Windows 8
Nov 29, 2012 1:35AM PST

I have installed successfully the UK version of Quicken on a Windows 7 computer using the compatibility mode feature. Cannot the same be done in Windows 8?

Using compatibilty mode in Windows 7 meant that I did not need to install additionally the files MFC70.dll
MSVCP70.dll and MSVCR70.dll.

I noticed that these three files are in my Quicken directory on a version that I am running in Windows XP. A safer way than downloading the files from the internet would be simply to copy them from my Windoews XP computer installation.

As it's so old and there appears to be a solution here for the original topic.

If you change the topic I suggest your own new discussion.

-> In short I could install VirtualBox then Windows 98 in that VM and finally this 1998 software.
