Windows 8: Problem with Start Stop Universal Transcription

Mar 12, 2015 2:23AM PDT

I am quoting another user--sorry, forgot the name--from the Windows XP page because this is a terrific description of what happens to me.

"The program will work fine and then it's like my computer freezes - the audio will halt abruptly and whatever I'm typing in Word will freeze as well. After a few seconds, Word will start working again but whatever audio I had open in Start-Stop will not work again. It simply states (not responding) and the only way to get it back is by completely shutting out of it [Ctrl+Alt+Del], re-opening the program and reload the audio I had been working on and continue where I left off. It's driving me absolutely crazy..."

Hear, hear! I cannot afford to take so much time from my transcription work to clear this out through the task manager, reload, find my place, and start again. This is the best player (best quality) that I've come across. I have Express Scribe and it stinks.

Any help would be appreciated...

Oh, BTW, I am trying to find what version and there is no version listed. It's probably old. The company I work for gave me a disk with the program on it, and they are probably too cheap to upgrade. So I'm left with this version. I can't afford to buy it myself or I would. I WILL say that it worked fine on my old XP machine, and when I upgraded to Windows 7, the problems began...

So does it work on other PCs?

You made no mention of your PC so re-test on another PC that came with the OS ready to run.

Windows 8: Problem with Start Stop Universal Transcription

I should clarify: The version of above stated software is 9.4.18. Thanks.

And why this in the Window 7 forum if it is 8?

Anyhow, upgrades from one OS to another have found folk discovering that it's far from automatic. Talk to your support about BIOS, drivers and apps required for your PC.

In one case a moderator and I went over everything and found some new SSD firmware (there's HDD firmware too!) as well as their setup mandated Intel's RST app (which is not a driver!)

Installing Windows today is pretty annoying at times.
