Question

Windows 8 Monitor

Dec 1, 2013 2:10AM PST

This might be an unusual request but here goes.
I have assigned an sound the 'Open Program' event and have done so for years
I've noticed, 10 or 15 minutes after booting up, the Open Program event triggers, causing the assigned sound to fire,15 to 20 times within a few seconds.
It just seems to have started recently and there were no significant changes made to my system.
Except restoring a clean image to see if it would remedy the situation.
At this time I have no programs running at start up. I can't seem to catch the culprit. Not even sure if it's a scheduled task.
I've done virus scans with 3 different products and all came back ok.
I probably shouldn't be concerned about this but I am.
Before it wasn't so prevalent. Every-now-and-then I would here a program open but they were few and far between.

Is there a program I might use to monitor and record the opening of programs, services and scheduled tasks?

Thanks,
James

Answer
Check the system event log
Dec 1, 2013 2:28AM PST

You can check the rather cryptic system event log. To do that click Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer. Once in Event Viewer click on the system log and scroll through the entries looking for those flagged "error" to see if you can find hints as to where the problem could be. Remember I warned you it's very cryptic!

Good luck.

Don't be alarmed at the amount of errors you see there. As wpgwpg said cryptic.

Check System Event Log
Dec 1, 2013 2:47AM PST

I should have mentioned that I have checked Event Viewer, and yes it is very cryptic.
How do I know this is an error and not, say, a scheduled task?
When I see these entries in Event Viewer, the only thing I can do is check the time ov the event.
