That looks to be about 3 years old so without knowing the rest of the PC there could be a hard issue here.
As to Startisback, next time try the FREE one call Classic Shell. Some apps when they are not activated, lockup.
But the i5 has it's own video so by pulling out the 660 we get about 100 to 150 Watts of power back and start sniffing out this old machine's hardware issues.

Hi
To start off, my pc had JUST gotten completely wiped (about a month ago) because the windows 8.1 update rendered my desktop completely unresponsive (only keyboard commands worked, and after a while they didn't).
After that, I installed windows 8 and it worked fine.
Today, while I was watching a video, firefox froze. I thought silverlight had crashed like it always does, but my other tabs (skype, documents, etc.) were also frozen. The mouse cursor, however, worked fine and the different effects when hovering things (like changing colour or showing a tooltip) also responded normally, without lag. But clicking anything or opening/closing anything just resulted in a "this program isn't responding" prompt, and when I clicked to terminate the program, that prompt would also freeze and nothing would get closed. Task manager did the same.
I restarted a bunch of times, but now I can't get past the login screen (and it takes forever for the login screen to even show up, and then it is half-frozen). The error I get is "The group policy client service failed the sign-in. the universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported. I can access the bios just fine and it doesn't lag there.
I tried to access the computer in safe mode, but it tells me that the "disk is locked". I tried doing a system restore, but it tells me that there are no saves available (there have been updates since the wipe so there should be saves). I tried "renewing" the pc, which returns windows to its default setting, but again, I get an error message.
Finally, the only thing that coincides with this mess is the program StartIsBack asking me to activate today because the trial ran out (I have a key already, but apparently I forgot to put it in after the wipe). So I didn't have anything pinned in my "start" tab all day, it was just white. Maybe this has nothing to do with the freezes, though. I also may be a bit behind on video card updates.
Specs:
-i5 3.40ghz
-8g ram
-nvidia gtx660
-windows 8
Thanks in advance for any suggestions other than "wipe again" ![]()
