Still a mess. Only the PC's maker will have the step by step. I can only supply the generic guide I've used since about 1995.
1. Install Windows.
2. Install motherboard chipset driver
3. Install audio then video drivers
4. Install USB, WiFi, LAN drivers.
5. Install "helper" Apps that control WiFi, keyboard enhancements.
I installed Windows 8.1 on my DELL XPS 15 L502X which comes with a NVIDIA GT540M graphic card. My screen is stretched out horizintally and I am unable to change generic pnp monitor display to mobile pc display. The resolution option has been disabled(locked) and in grey.
Everytime i try installing Nvidia Graphics driver, an error pops up "Nvidia installer cannot continue. you must install Intel driver first"
And when I open up Device Manager, there is a yellow error triangle beside the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Updating the driver doesnt remove this.
I tried downloading drivers from Dell website and also tried installing Nvidia drivers, but it hasnt worked. As i said it wont let me install.
Please help me out with this. Thanks in advance.
