Windows 8 and Publisher 2007 "Has detected a problem..."

When trying to open a file in Publisher 2007 it can, occasionally display the error "Publisher has detected a problem ..." and will not open the file. This can be solved - (MS Article ID: 928890) using MS Fix It 50751. Whilst this works in Windows 7, the Fix It is not compatible with Windows 8. Does anyone know of a fix? Does the manual registry fix for Windows 7, also apply to Windows 8? Grateful for any advice.
