Question

Windows 8.1 Proxy server issue

Mar 5, 2014 9:20PM PST

help!

I have a new machine running Windows 8.1.

I am having a problem with a proxy server. When I try to access any of my IE driven tiles on the home screen I get a proxy server error.

I check the PC Settings and Network connections and I do find a Proxy Server turned on with an address and a "loop back" description.

I turn it off and the IE tiles work. However once i sign out and in or power off and on its backs.

i suspect a virus. I have Mcafee and I installed Hitman and Malware to try to remove the proxy server. They ID the proxy server but do not remove it.

Any help is really appreciated!!!!

My wife just got a new Windows 8.1 tablet & has the exact same problem! Maybe changing the network\browser settings is an idea. Probably like you - I'd like to know why proxy settings are set by default & why can't they be cleared?

I am taking your word they can't be cleared or changed.

In that case my bet is pilot error or a really bad malware infection.
