Question

Windows 8.1 crashes when I boot--can't do anything!

For at least 2 years I have been getting the "catalyst control center" error message but have ignored it because I could always just click ok and it would continue working.

The other day it crashed big time and now my PC is unworkable.

Everytime I try to boot the computer it works until I get to the "tiles" but whenever I try to do anything, right-clicking does nothing, the mail page opens and finally the "catalyst control system" error message comes up.

I do a cntrl+alt+delete to pull up the tast manager but when that window comes up it won't respond to my commands.

I am stuck as I can't go anywhere on my computer to try to resolve this problem even if I did know what to do.

There are some solutions on the internet but they all presume I would have taken these steps sometime in the past 2 years when I first started seeing this message.

Please help if you can. I am really ignorant when it comes to technology but I can follow directionns if they're specific.

Thanks!

I don't see make or model.

But you must get ready to start over. All PC owners must be ready for a wipe out.

I think you are asking for step by step but you left out make, model and the exact error message in quotes. The make and model is missing as well as why it didn't get the W10 upgrade. Your choice but I moved the entire office and home to W10 to keep current and more.

If you don't know and even if you do know the machine's make and model, do the following to let members see what they are working with. Make a SPECCY report using https://www.piriform.com/docs/speccy/using-speccy/publishing-a-speccy-profile-to-the-web

It's a Dell Inspiron and it's nearly 4 years old. Just going to buy a new one. This one is past it's expiration date. Thanks.
