Question

Windows 8.0 to 8.1 to 10 Update

Jul 26, 2016 10:25PM PDT

I have a HP 2000 Notebook laptop with Windows 8. It's just over 2 years old. It won't let me update to Windows 8.1 which means I can't upgrade to Windows 10. Because of this, I can't update my browser so most sites will not work properly or open. I can download Windows 8.1 but it won't run.

What is this about the browser?

I have a laptop stuck at W8 and will have another go at it today but I did upgrade the browser with Chrome and Firefox. Works great.

I think I did a W8 to W10 upgrade.

It was not 8.1. But I used the OTHER upgrade method. I didn't use the GWX method.

I used the Windows Media Creation Kit and made the USB W10 stick.

Then I plugged in the stick and ran the .ext in the top folder. When it asked to download updates I answered no or skip since I'm going to W10.

-> In parting I also uninstall any CD/DVD emulation software and all non-Microsoft antivirus and firewalls. I always give a quick look at installed apps to see if any can go since some and I don't have a list, interfere with upgrades.

You still have 2 days to do a free install of Windows 10 in stead of an upgrade. You can use your Windows 8 product key for that.
If on the same disk, it will overwrite what you have now. So better do it on a new SSD, then later copy your old stuff to that new disk.

Upgrade to Windows 10

I tried to upgrade but it will only upgrade from Windows 8.1 not 8. Will try to do a factory reset and see if I can get it to upgrade that way.
