Question

Windows 7 Upgrade Won't Install

Jan 8, 2012 12:54AM PST

I have Vista, SP2, and finally bought Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade, both 32-bit. I have tried several times to install it but after it updates from the web and copies files, it just cancels with no help other than to say restart and update from the internet. I downloaded and ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and performed the only action that was required.

How did you prepare for this upgrade?

Here I do simple things like uninstall apps that will fail on such an upgrade. Things like the Antivirus Firewall suites and maybe a few others that I would not expect to make the changeover.

Tell more.

Few Things I Did To Prepare
Jan 8, 2012 4:05AM PST

I exited things like anti-virus software, but I didn't uninstall it. I will uninstall it. Any other things that should be uninstalled, I don't know enough to be sure what would not make the upgrade.

I can't guess.

Without seeing all that is installed or more importantly running when we boot up, I can't offer more.

It's a shame the machine make and model was not found.

I have a Dell Inspiron 531, 3 GB RAM

That's a very good clue why the upgrade failed.

I hesitate to duplicate any Norton removal discussion but find that a boot to safe more often helps in killing off Norton.

HOWEVER as I read http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04 (the Dell page for drivers) I found no listing for Windows 7.

All this means is you are on your own if some feature does not work.
