You say you upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit. So does that work now?
You cannot upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit, whether Vista 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit, or Win 7 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit. You need to do a complete fresh install. I guess that is what was meant by a "Custom installation".
How to find out what version of Vista is installed? Or any Windows for that matter. Find the "Computer" icon, either in the Start menu or on the Desktop, right click it, select Properties.

Hi,
I'm having problems attempting to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 64 bit. I'm doing this for a friend and he doesn't know what version of Vista he had. I am able to upgrade to Windows 7 32 bit no problem.
After I upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit, i ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. All the hardware passes. The only Caution flag is that a Custom Installation is required. Which i have tried 3 times so far. When I attempt to start the 64 bit version it either blue screens or just continually reboots. I was able to start it in safe mode.
The specs are:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66 GHz
4 GB Memory
Motherboard is N13219
It's a Cyberpower (Silverstone) and around 4 years old.
Any tips, tricks or leads would be thoroughly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Vince
