Windows 7 Task Manager corrupted Maybe

Jan 31, 2014 12:11AM PST

Hi, I was on my computer and a window started popping up saying "Do you want to install Windows RegEdit", "Red Flag" I clicked "cancel" and it kept popping up. I tried to run Malware bytes, and Hitman Pro while it was happening and it just prevented me from doing either. I just shut down and rebooted. I got that message one more time. I ran Malwarebytes and Hitman and no crap was found. But now I suspect there is something running that prevents me from running task manager. I right click the toolbar for task manager, it pops up and then goes away real quick. There could be something planted in startup or something still there that prevents me from running task manager. I want to see what kind of mysterious task might be running so I can kill it. Something I suspect got through my firewall of Norton and Malewarebytes. Any ideas people. Thanks, Jay.

Try scanning in Safe Mode

Some malware can hide itself in normal mode, so I'd boot to Safe Mode and do a full system scan with both the antivirus and MalwareBytes.

You can check for corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above doesn't help. Click START, then type CMD in the search box, right-click CMD.EXE and click Run as administrator. Then from the command prompt type sfc /scannow.

Pop up

Check system configuration and see if that is in the start up list. When running a scan with MWB, try it in Safe mode with networking, not from base Windows. First things first, see if it is the start up list and go from there.

Windows 7 Task Manager corrupted Maybe

I was able to get rid of it by running msconfig and setting startup mode as safe. I rebooted and ran hitman proo, PUP's and bots were quarantined and deleted. Thanks for your advice. I knew if I clicked that popup to install regedit, a monster would be released. It was the FBI State dept virus. I have got and deleted this before, the FBI things was not easy.
