Windows 7 stuck in Safe Mode login screen

Sep 8, 2015 3:32PM PDT

I set win7 to boot up in safe mode while dealing with a previous issue and now I am stuck in the login screen in safe mode and neither my keyboard or mouse work in this screen. I cant type my password or shutdown my pc, only through a hard shutdown. anyone have any ideas?

That's when I press and hold the power button

In 4 to 15 seconds it powers off and I can try again but if you set it to safe mode, I gotta ask why? I use the F8 key.

To unset the usual safe mode I edit BOOT.INI. That edit is on the web.

The backstory
Sep 8, 2015 4:25PM PDT

My original problem was that windows would not make it to the login screen; the screen would go blank after the windows logo. I figured it was a video driver error so I went into bios and set the main video to come out of the mobo instead of my gpu and that worked. When I was finally able to login to windows, it recognized that it was not genuine and my razer keyboard and mouse did not work. Currently the only peripheral is a spare dell keyboard. Thinking that my non legit windows was affecting drivers i switched into safe mode so that i can use my keyboard and mouse without drivers. When I get to the safe mode login, it wont let me type my password, and when i do a hard reboot it goes straight back into safe mode where, again, i can do nothing but a hard reboot

The old non-legit windows problems are legendary.

Sounds like one of the usual timeouts. I've seen it run OK for 28 or so days then lockup.

Any license issue is for Microsoft and you to sort out. That said, just last week I encountered a heavily damaged Windows 7 on a factory issue Sony install. My end workaround was to upgrade it to 10. That worked and while the only road back to 7 is a factory restore the move to 10 kept 99 of the 100 apps the owner has installed.

After that I installed Classic Shell and we were done.

Your backstory is incomplete. That is you didn't say the OS was legit or not.

My OS is totally non legit

but it has been working well over 28 days; more like the better part of 2 years. I will definitely be purchasing a win7 key if i can get out of this safe mode

Good luck with this issue.

Microsoft has been working on tracking down those versions and issuing well, you know.

Good luck. Remember that few forums help cracked copies.

No mystery here then.

Cracked windows locks up in 30 days. Some will slip the net, but it's clear what happened here.

if i can get past this safe mode loop I will definitely get a legit copy. I really dont want to reinstall windows and lose my data. If there's anything you guys suspect might work I'll greatly appreciate it

Do what James suggests and get Linux Mint

Linux Mint is free. You can download it, make a disc or bootable flash drive, boot from it, and recover your data. Download it from here:

Good luck.

I already have a live ubuntu usb. how would i go about recovering my data? Although I would rather try to get back on my windows and activate it

p.s. if anyone finds out how to fix this safe mode thing that would be extremely great.

Maybe you should start another thread ( not necessarily here )......
"How would I use a Free Open Source Operating System to Hack into my Cracked version of Windows 7 ? "

you can use the Linux LIVE system

Only one company can reactivate and get it going.

Asking for help on a cracked copy can get folk upset as it's never a sure thing.

The discussion of how to bring back a blown Windows 7 OS has many priors but here you want to fix a cracked OS. Please stop asking for such and get back to Microsoft. I know some have a hard time understanding how this is like asking "help me jack this car."

My current issue is not the cracked copy
Sep 8, 2015 6:31PM PDT

My issue is being stuck in safe mode. Really I couldve left all the details about a bootlegged os out if i wasnt going to legitimize it afterwards. I paid for this os thinking it was coming from a licensed distributor because it was cheap and it came around. It was an honest mistake and I'm going to make amends for it but I need help getting passed this.

Sadly no. Fixing a cracked copy is

A waste of everyone's time. There are prior discussions and the OS is pretty much trash at this point.
