Extended support of security updates will run for another 5 years. By then everyone will have moved on to either a Linux desktop software, or windows 10. A few may keep using windows 8, but if windows ME taught us anything.....I doubt it.

I'll keep using my 2006 Win Vista/7 laptop until 2020 when the extended support ends if the laptop is still alive. It's rarely used and is my real backup computer.

It was Vista when I purchased it but I soon installed the Win 7 upgrade and is the only computer I don't mess with or tweak. It stays stock and has ran flawlessly . Replaced a fan once with Bob's help. I've never had to reload the system or anything. and won't be in a year.

Windows 7 is my favorite MS OS but 10 is HOT !

We'll talk about it in 2020
