But the causes I run into are not OS issues but for me, hardware things with the hardest to fix ones being home built units. Not only do I get to find the issue but most home builders have to be given tutorials about power supply Amperes versus Watts and more.
Looking at your post all it seems you want is confirmation that it is possible for Windows 7 to lock up.

Have been suffering with windows freezing since it was installed. Have searched all the forums and implimented the fixes explained there. So far nothing has worked. Drivers are up to date, went back to default IE8, have used troubleshoot for every conceivable problem, run chkdsk etc. If anyone has had this problem and found a way around it, please let us all know. Seems there are many out there with the same problem.
