Windows 7 Professional and third party games.

Jun 4, 2010 8:55AM PDT

Somebody who is knowledgeable about computers said you cannot install any third party games on windows 7 Pro. I did not think that this was true. If this was the case Microsoft would of faced a huge backlash from this. I upgraded both of my PCs to the professional edition. Is this true??

Most any game will play on ANY version of Win 7.

Yep.

There may be compatibility issues with some older games, but Microsoft has not 'locked out' 3rd party gaming on Windows 7.

As stated, this person is only "knowledgeable" about things which are not true it would seem. If you think about it for a few seconds, gaming is about the only area left that Microsoft can really stick to it Apple or Linux. They've caught up, or will catch up very soon, if they haven't already surpassed, Windows in every other way. What could they possibly have to gain by locking out third party games? Maybe the better question is, what would they stand to lose by doing so.

This isn't meant for just you, because you've got plenty of company in this regard, but it does annoy me that people today can't even perform a simple logical analysis like this. It should take you all of maybe 10 seconds to work this out in your head, probably less. Sometimes people do what you do, and just give up a quarter to half way through. Which is at least better than the political nutters the world over who just stop as soon as they reach some conclusion that fits with their particular world view, and do all sorts of mental gymnastics to get to that point. I honestly don't care if you believe in some kind of divine creation or that we're just a cosmic fluke... The end result is that we have these amazing brains capable of all kinds of impressive feats... Logical analysis is just one of them. If you happen to believe in some divine creator, doesn't it seem just a LITTLE insulting, presumptuous even, to think that this being would go to all the trouble of making it so that we are capable of independent thought, only to have us waste it like we do? I never quite understood that aspect of religion. But if you're in the cosmic fluke camp, then assuming you're interested in the continued survival of our species, we need to do all we can to ensure that future generations are as equipped as we can make them to handle events of the future. That includes encouraging curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge. Which then naturally lends itself to promoting this kind of analysis. Otherwise, we may as well go back to living in trees and caves.

End of rant.
