Question

Windows 7 Problem: BSOD, Glitchy Screen and Reformat Useless

Nov 4, 2014 11:53PM PST

Greetings

Umm, so in the past couple weeks, my family pc has gone quite "rogue" on us. It all started when the screen started to glitch up and showed a blue screen, this repeated until I just left it alone for a few hours and it became normal again. My brother thought it was simply because of memory overload, and so I deleted some of my files (which he assumes are mostly the cause).

Then when everything was seemingly fine again, the glitchy screen and the BSOD came back. My brother then decided to reformat the partition with the large files (we have 2 partitions; C and D; and we backed up everything at D and reformat C)

But, everything went a little wrong, when after we reformat, it was able to boot but we'd get stuck on a black screen with only a cursor. Then a few days after, the glitchy screen and BSOD came back again, and this time it was worse since we couldn't even go to Safe Mode (or even use the Command Prompt).

So I'd really like to know how to repair this. I do have a choice of absolutely reformatting the whole drive, but if even that doesn't work, I guess buying a new unit wouldn't sound much of a second-choice.

Clarification Request
How did you get from reformatting C: to rebooting?

There appear to be lots of missing details here. After formatting C: I assume you reinstalled Windows? Where did you get your drivers and helper apps?

Any chance of revealing more about the PC?

Do other OSes work? For example the odd display may be a failing video card but I see so little about the PC that I can't offer much other than try a Live OS from CD/DVD/USB. There are so many out there and none require us to format or install to the HDD.

We don't have anymore OSes

Well we don't really have an alternate OS though, we'll check the video card too.

did you try another monitor? also did you open the case to make sure it is dust free and all the cards and cables are securely seated and fasten? sometimes dust and loose connections can created similar problems.

Just cleaned

We tried another monitor, ended up the same, and we vacuumed (literally) the cards and checked the wiring with all of them tightly in place, yet it ends the same.
