Resolved Question

Windows 7 on TV (Please help)

Feb 25, 2015 9:06AM PST

Connection between my PC and my TV is lost when ever I press Ctrl Alt Delete, when my PC goes in to sleep mode or on occasion arbitrarily.

I have a 32'' LG TV with a HDMI cable hooked up to the first HDMI port on the TV, connected to a HDMI to DVI adapter which is connected to my graphics card.

My tv has the latest firmware installed, my PC has the latest video drivers. My TV is also set to "PC".

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and have a 260gtx.

A fix currently works to reestablish connection which involves hooking up my smaller PC monitor then hooking up my 32'' TV again. Although, this is a nightmare.

Full model number please.

Let's see that model TV. Some are only 720p. If we set our PC to 1080, sure it might work then again you will see troubles. Let's see that model number in full.

try different refresh rates and resolutions for the tv in the computer. You may have to pull the tv manual to see what is compatible.

Answer
This sounds like a HDCP bug.

The HDMI chips which hold the HDCP code is not updateable. Try another make TV if a shiny new HDMI 1.4a cable doesn't clear it up.

Could you elaborate more please? You are saying my HDMI cable could be faulty?

- Collapse -
No I didn't write that.
Feb 25, 2015 9:43AM PST

I said to try another HDMI 1.4a cable just to be sure. As to HDMI chips, HDCP code that's on the web but since that code is not updateable what is there to add?

So you say I would need a new TV if a new HDMI cable does not work?

- Collapse -
Because you can't update the HDCP code.

I thought I wrote that already.

Sure. Warranty.

It doesn't work right. Get them to fix it.

While HDMI was supposed to not have us dive into video settings, why not try that?

That's why I try the HDMI cable first. Sometimes you get a client that digs in their heels and your stuck changing TV or PC. Rare but it will happen.

But back to the HDCP HDMI code thing. I'm guessing you are new to that issue, be sure to research it more. It's not as if you can fix that and you'll see why the more you read.

may have to dig into the settings because of the HDMI to DVI adapter he is using.

My bet is another HDCP failure.
Feb 25, 2015 10:30AM PST
http://tv.about.com/od/hdtv/a/hdmidvihdcp.htm and other sites write:
"It works by encrypting a digital signal with a key that requires authentication from the transmitting and receiving product. If authentication fails then the signal fails, which means no picture on the TV screen."

The clue it's HDCP is how they get it to work. That forces a HDCP handshake and the next time it's working.

I'm unsure how to tell folk to try another cable when they push back like this. We know it can fix it but some folk want an iron clad solution. I've yet to find such today.

Thanks Proffitt, but I am getting much more helpful and clear responses from other forums then your ambiguous and unhelpful responses.

When you solve, please share.

I've tackled this far too many times in real life. I've shared the usual, another person pointed out to try resolution so how is that unclear? I even shared more about HDCP and well, some folk are just very upset about the HDCP mess.

Good luck and share how you fixed it.
