Question

Windows 7 on Thinkpad problem - HELP!

Mar 31, 2016 1:13AM PDT

Hi, I hope I'm in the right place for this message....I really need help! I have a Thinkpad 420, a few years old, with Windows 7 Prof SP1 64 bit, Intel Core i&-2640M CPU @ 2.8GHz; 8 Gig Ram. Last year it was slowing down a lot, hanging, BSODs; finally stopped. I was sure I needed a new hard drive but repair guy said it was keyboard short, and "optimized" the disk which cut down the hangs and BSODs. They've crept back and I'm afraid maybe I've made it worse by trying to fix it; machine has become almost unusable. I looked at perf logs, etc., and saw man MANY "Fails". Ack! Someone told me to run CrystalDIsk - it says Caution, Current pending sector count 29. ???
Here's my question: I'm a freelancer, very dependent on this; can't quite afford a new machine yet. Should I get remote support? If so, where? Can anybody here help me? Before it screeches to a halt altogether. I'd really REALLY appreciate ANY help or direction.
THANK YOU!!!

Seems like you need a new disk indeed. Remote support won't help much, I suppose and probably is more expensive.

Be sure you know how to install it and transfer your stuff (OS, programs, data). Also be sure you know how to go back to factory conditons (from the recovery disks!), reinstall all your programs and restore all your dat from your backup if (because of the bad current disk) cloning doesn't work.

3 steps

1 create the factory restore media and tuck it away it's your lifeline back.

2 save/copy off 'your stuff'.

3 clone that hdd and replace it.

Keep your fingers crossed you can get through the 3 steps before it croaks.
