New OS Windows 7/64bit . The text/icons/start menu stretched so much, cannot get to start menu with ease on taskbar and cannot read beginning or end of text within home page or web-sites.

Options please ?

I installed the drivers for my desktop (HP d499t), video card (gt240) and my display. Have you done all that?

to: Proffitt...reply to my Windows 7/Monitor
Jan 12, 2012 6:36AM PST

This new HP computer my husband just purchased (apparently according to him) has everything set up already (i.e. like his Video card); otherwise according to him he wouldn't get a good picture, etc. He is a novice.

I myself might suggest (from memory only) that perhaps just go to Drivers and double click to run them or even though too soon, maybe there is a new driver out there for his HighPower !! Top Speed !! HP computer.

If he is correct and everything is (as they call it is plug and play) .........this doesn't resolve the issue of why the text (which is on medium or small already).....spreads beyond any viewable margin and the start menu is hidden out of sight to the left on the taskbar.

What a pain. I'll stick to my Windows XP ..

Thanks for your suggestion and quick response.

Never found such a machine.

Unless that 27 inch display was setup as some package I find myself installing a monitor driver, tinkering with HDTV settings and more.

As to XP? I have to do that there too.

Tried Changing The Screen Resolution Yet?
Jan 12, 2012 8:18AM PST

A 27 inch wide-screen monitor will have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 or possibly 1920 x 1200. Try changing the screen resolution back to its native resolution and it should allow all the screen items to be included on the desktop.. Unfortunately, the high screen resolution may make the text and icons too small for some with bad eyes.. In such cases, you could try 1440 X 900 and see if that's any better.

Hope this helps.
