Windows 7 "Libraries"

May 24, 2010 1:08AM PDT

I just completed a clean install upgrade from Vista. It actually went quite smoothly. Prior to upgrading, I coped "My Documents" to an external USB drive. MyDocs included My pictures, My music, My videos, etc. Do I need to separate out the files and copy these back to WIN 7 libraries: Documents, Picture, Videos, and Music libraries? Thank you.

Doesn't seem a bad idea.

But to be sure, save a new document/pic/music/video (etc) in their Windows 7 folders and see where they end up. Then copy all those file from your backup to that same place. Can't miss.

Libraries

Libraries make searching and organizing easier, but not the sole place to save your documents and photos. You should save the files from your external hard drive to your documents (or wherever you choose) and add them to a library. If the library gets deleted, you still have all your documents and photos saved elsewhere on your computer. Learn more about how libraries work here - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Working-with-libraries

Hope you enjoy Windows 7!

you can keep all the files and let library to segregate the type of files and where they need to be kept, but yes sure like any other poster I will also ask you to have a backup!!!
